What Kids Need to Succeed is built on a simple idea: that there are Four Foundations that every child needs to learn in order to fulfill his or her full potential as an adult. They are:

  1. Refuse to Fail—Kids are expected to overcome adversity and deal with the consequences of their choices. Persistence, self-reliance and determination are rewarded; whining isn’t.
  2. Work Hard—By insisting that kids work for everything they get, parents instill a strong work ethic. Kids must work for money or to reach their goals.
  3. Develop Discipline— Kids are required to meet certain expectations and follow certain rules. Parents make the rules and penalties clear and act with consistency. There is no room for negotiation.
  4. Give Back—Kids are expected to show compassion and kindness and give of their time, ideas and money to others when they can.
